Hamilton County, OH [July 14, 2020] – Nearly 200 small businesses are receiving Hamilton County CARES Act grants to help weather the economic hardships caused by the COVID-19 pandemic. Hamilton County collaborated with HCDC, Inc. in distributing over $1.5 Million in grant money to qualified small businesses in this first round of funding.
As of July 14, 2020, 188 grants were awarded in this first round of funding totaling $1,505,000. Of which, 80 businesses self-described as MBEs (43%), 88 businesses marked that they were WBEs (47%), 60 businesses checked that they were both MBE and WBE (32%) and 12 businesses claimed Veteran Owned status (6%).
Hamilton County Commissioners wanted to utilize a portion of the CARES Act money they received from the Federal Government to help the vulnerable businesses that didn’t receive federal assistance stay open. The program targeted businesses with less than 50 employees, less than $1 million in gross revenue, and could prove a decrease in gross revenue of 35% or more due to COVID-19. The grant money can be used for rent, utilities, payroll, or adapting to keep up with new safety requirements as a result of the coronavirus.
