Robert Pickford Joins the HCDC Team as Business Coach

Hamilton County, Ohio-  After 11 years as the President and CEO of the Corporation for Findlay Market, Robert Pickford finds his next big project – helping startups and small businesses grow in Hamilton County. Pickford was hired by HCDC to coach and mentor startups and small businesses as part of business retention and expansion contracts with several different Hamilton County communities.

“We believe we have a winning combination with HCDC’s business resources and Bob’s vast network and knowledge,” said David Main, president of HCDC. “When you want to retain and expand businesses in the community, you need an expert who is both a fixer and a big-picture thinker. That’s why we recruited Bob. He knows what it takes to grow a successful business and turn around a struggling company.”

Pickford will provide management assistance, coaching, referrals, analysis, development, strategic planning and project implementation planning to businesses located within identified communities including Uptown, Price Hill, and College Hill.

“I’m excited about joining the team at HCDC,” said Pickford. “Helping businesses grow and succeed is extremely rewarding because of the positive ripple effect healthy businesses have on our communities.”

The Uptown Consortium contracts with HCDC to provide technical business assistance as part of a proactive business retention and expansion program aimed to ensure the success of existing businesses. Also, thanks to a generous Duke Energy grant, four other communities will receive technical business assistance to spur growth in their small business districts.

Widely credited with the successful revitalization of historic Findlay Market, Pickford brings more than 30 years of business experience in management and team building. Prior to his experience as the CEO of the Corporation for Findlay Market, Pickford was the Director of Midwest Operations for Northeast Cooperatives, a $110 million wholesale natural foods distributor. He also served as General Manager, COO, and CEO of the Federation of Ohio River Cooperatives, a Columbus wholesale food cooperative with customers in eleven states. He has special expertise in turn-around management and has led several new business startups.
