Congratulations to our lending partner All About Kids- A Green Childcare and Learning Center for being nominated for its third consecutive Annual Green Business Award by the Cincinnati Business Courier and the U.S. Green Building Council. The award recognizes leadership demonstrated on sustainable practices and projects. All About Kids was also HCDC’s 2012 Borrower of the year, having used the SBA 504 Loan program nine times for its multiple LEED Certified Locations.
Builder Greg Davis, a partner in the day-care franchise and owner of G. Davis CCM- a USGBC Registered Company, constructs the green childcare centers and says there are two important components that have significantly helped their business model- incorporating a green business plan and financing with a SBA 504 loan program.
“The SBA 504 Loan allows us to gain access to a fixed rate on up to 40% of the loan while making it easier for banks to partner by limiting their exposure,” says Davis. “I love the program and the expertise of the HCDC team ensures the deal gets done right.”
Davis constructs the centers using recycled materials, green building practices, energy-efficient components, and even rain barrels to capture water for flower planters maintained by students. All About Kids’ green approach can be seen in their curriculum and green operations. Besides having gardens at each learning center, they also have bike racks, recycling bins, and produce a green newsletter full of environmental tips for the teachers and students.
