Tim Rettig – Founder/CEO – Intrust IT
eKickStart – May 10, 2019
After implementing open book accounting, Intrust IT wanted to implement a management system that better aligned with their culture than traditional command and control hierarchy. Two years ago Intrust IT embarked on a journey to implement Holacracy, a form of employee self-management. You may have heard of Holacracy before because at one time it was in the news frequently because Zappos chose to implement the system cold-turkey in their 1,700 employee company. While open book accounting allows employees to have visibility and control over the flow of money through an organization, Holacracy allows employees to have visibility and control over the flow of work through an organization. It is a very different way of approaching traditional management structure that was created by the leader of a software company applying Agile Programming methodologies to the creation of a management system. In this session you’ll hear the story of how and why Intrust implemented the system so you can understand how and why it may work in your company.
Tim Rettig Bio
Tim is a second-generation entrepreneur in the IT industry. Tim started Intrust IT in 1992 while in college at the University of Cincinnati, causing him to drop out of college to focus on his entrepreneurial path. Four short years later he sold the company, staying on to run the division for the parent company. Eleven years after selling he bought the division back and merged with another IT company in Chicago. After much drama with his partners, he bought out both partners, sold the Chicago office and then repaid over a million dollars in debt to build a profitable company that has won numerous awards, including being recognized as a Best Place to Work in Cincinnati for a total of seven years, a Best Workplace in Ohio in 2018, Best IT Services Company in Cincinnati in 2018, and was listed on the Inc. 500|5000 three years in a row. Tim has built a unique company culture that has drastically reduced employee turnover and improved employee engagement.
